Baked Macaroni and Cheese With Tomatoes Recipe

Quote For The Day:

"I can't stand people who do not take food seriously." - Oscar Wilde

Food For Thought:

Celebrity Cookware

How do you feel about celebrity cookware? Two main celebrities come to my mind when I think of celebrity cookware. The first celebrity is Pioneer Woman and the second is Paris Hilton. I know there are others, but these two celebrities stand out because I often go into the big-box store and see the cookware.

I have purchased Pioneer Woman cookware, cups, and glasses. I have yet to purchase Paris Hilton's products. My daughter likes the Heart Shaped Bundt Cake Pan. All her products are pink. I don't have a problem with pink but I like darker colors. Ok, I don't want pink but it would be nice if she had a guy color like camouflage. Her Bamboo Cutting Board is cool but instead of a heart cut in the corner, it would be nice to have a knife shape or a deer shape in it.

Many years ago I studied business people while going to college and Conrad Hilton was a subject. Conrad Hilton started Hilton Hotels. Paris Hilton is the great-granddaughter of Conrad. I remember Conrad was a young man on his journey to create his fortune. He stayed in a small hotel and was impressed with the service. It was then that he decided to enter the hotel business. The rest is history.

My daughter likes Paris Hilton and her cookware. If we purchase the cookware I will do a review for you on the products we purchase. I do know Paris has a microwave popcorn popper product I think would be very interesting to try. Currently, we have an old electric hot-air popper we have had for many years. It still works great. I do like popping popcorn on the stovetop. I use a pot with a lid and pour enough popcorn just to line the bottom of the pot and then I pour enough cooking oil to barely cover the popcorn. I put the lid on the pot and cook the popcorn until it is done popping. It turns out great every time.

Some Questions For You:

  • Do you like baked macaroni?
  • What recipe do you use when making baked macaroni?
  • If you have made baked macaroni, what method of cooking do you use to make yours special?
  • Did you see the recipe I posted yesterday? It is called Mocha Cheesecake Delight Recipe and it has coffee in it. If you are a coffee lover, you will enjoy the recipe.

Extra Information For You:

Baked macaroni is considered a side dish for holiday gatherings in America. It is said that Thomas Jefferson made baked macaroni popular during his presidency. A chef who worked for Thomas Jefferson made a "macaroni pie" and it was served to people who visited the White House. Visit The Science Survey to learn more about the history of baked macaroni.

Since that time there have been many variations of baked macaroni. Mary Gatti created a cookbook that has 185 baked macaroni recipes in it. You might find it interesting.

My Thoughts On Baked Macaroni:

Here in the Ozarks, we have a country theme park you might have heard of. In the theme park, they have several restaurants. One of my daughters worked in the theme park at one of the restaurants. They served baked macaroni which was so good. I always dipped a serving when I went to eat there. Unfortunately, the baked macaroni is a restaurant's secret recipe but while my daughter worked there she learned the recipe. Now she makes the baked macaroni for us when we have special family events. She doesn't share the recipe with us but she bakes a dish of it and we enjoy it.

This recipe is special because of a few things. First of all, you can use any macaroni doodles you like but I would suggest using Creamettes. Their macaroni noodles are a higher quality food product and you will enjoy the high-quality taste. Another thing that makes this recipe great is sauteeing the chopped onions well in butter. Sautee the onions until they are dark brown. This will give the baked macaroni a taste you won't forget. Finally, the sugar added makes the baked macaroni just sweet enough to enhance the flavor combination of onion, cheese, salt, and green peppers. The salt seals the deal because of the sweet and salty together.

It is a simple recipe but it is the little things in preparation that make the difference. When I cook, I cook for the flavor. If you skip my suggestions you will miss the flavor I am writing about here.

Baked Macaroni and Cheese With Tomatoes Recipe - (Casseroles)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 box of Creamettes macaroni (8 ounces, cooked)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 green pepper (chopped)
  • 1 can tomatoes (cut up)
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 pound sharp Cheddar cheese (shredded)

Instructions:

Sautee the chopped onions in the butter until they are dark brown, almost burned. Add the water, green pepper, tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour it over the cooked macaroni, add the shredded cheese and mix. Pour into a greased casserole dish. Bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees. Stir it once during the baking process. Top with sliced cheese. Bake another 5 minutes or until the cheese melts.

My Thoughts For Today:

Food Product Review!

I have this new food product for me that I am going to review soon. It is called Gary's Quick Steak. I love trying packaged food products that are new to me. You may have tried this Sirloin Beef Steak and I would like to know what you think about it. It is a small amount of meat product but I think making a cooking video will work great here. The package comes with a seasoning packet and it is in a shrinkwrapped plastic wrapper.

Have you tried Gary's Quick Steak?

This meat product is only 4 ounces and is enough for one person. It is supposed to be a very quick meal to prepare. I think it would be good with a salad or maybe green beans. I am excited to see how this cooks up and the final result.

Stay posted and I will share my video as soon as I can!

A Few Questions For You:

  • Do you like pork chops?
  • What is your favorite pork chop recipe?
  • What side dishes do you think goes well with pork chops?
  • Do you think pork chops can be too dry after cooking? This pork chop casserole recipe will not make your pork chops dry.
  • Did you read my recipe from yesterday? It is called Butter Tarts Easy Recipe. I know you will love these Butter Tarts, which will go well with Pork Chop Casserole if you want a dessert.

More Information For You:

When most people think of pork chops it is considered a Southern food. Using pork for food dates back to China where they domesticated pigs. Several different cuts of pork can be used for food. Thoughts On Pork Chop Casserole:

When I was a child and my mom would make pork chops I was excited to have meat to eat and I immediately thought about bacon for some reason. When I began to eat the pork chops I always found them dry. I did enjoy how my mom would season them but as a child, they were not moist enough for me. I have heard many people complain about pork chops not being juicy enough for them. A benefit of a pork chop casserole is the cream of mushroom soup gives the pork chops enough water to make them more juicy. They are seasoned well with salt, pepper, and the onion soup mix to give them a superb flavor. I enjoy pork chops cooked this way and I know you will like them too if you never tried them in a casserole.

Pork Chop Casserole Recipe - (Casseroles)

Ingredients:

  • 6-8 pork chops
  • 1 package dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (10 3/4 ounces, undiluted)
  • 1 tablespoon onion (diced)
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Brown the pork chops on both sides. Place them in a 13x9 pan. Layer the remaining ingredients on top of the pork chops in the order given. Cover the pan with foil or a metal lid. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours.

Old Time Corn Casserole Easy Recipe - (Main Dishes, Casserole)

Ingredients:

2 cups corn (creamed or frozen)
1 cup cracker crumbs
1/4 cup celery (diced)
1/3 cup American cheese (diced)
2 tablespoons onion (diced)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg (beaten)
1 tablespoon margarine
1/2 cup milk
*Read this entire post to find my secret ingredient that will make this recipe pop!

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients, and pour into a greased casserole dish. Bake at 350 degrees until brown.

My Thoughts On Old-Time Corn Casserole:

Many corn casserole recipes you will find today incorporate Jiffy corn mix into the recipe. This recipe is an older one using cracker crumbs. While I do like Jiffy very much, I enjoy the texture of this older cracker ingredient recipe. Another feature is celery. No matter your favorite corn casserole recipe, I believe you will enjoy this Old-Time Corn Casserole recipe.

Questions For You:

Do you consider a corn casserole a main dish? When is your favorite time to cook corn casserole? Did you see my last casserole recipe? If you didn't, it is called Tater Tot Casserole and since I am sharing another delicious casserole recipe this one will complement well.

More Information For You:

There is a great article by Tasting Table at Yahoo called "Is There A Difference Between Corn Pudding And Corn Casserole?" I think you will find it interesting. Corn casserole recipes started showing up in the 1950s and are most likely a variation of corn pudding.

My Thoughts For The Day:

This will make your casserole pop!

Here's my secret ingredient! Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning tastes great and I love to cook with it. I always keep some of this seasoning on hand and use it a lot. I would recommend adding 1/2 teaspoon of this seasoning to the Old-Time Corn Casserole recipe to give it a special taste. If you try this I would like to hear from you.

Keep on cooking!

Tater Tot Casserole Easy Recipe - (Main Dishes, Potato)

Ingredients:

1 pound hamburger (thawed)
Onion flakes
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can peas (drained)
1 package of frozen tater tots (2 lbs)

Directions:

Place the hamburger over the bottom of the baking pan or dish. Sprinkle the onion flakes over the hamburger. Pour cans of soup over the hamburger, then the drained peas. Place the frozen tater tots over the top and then sprinkle shredded cheese over the tater tots. Bake for 1 hour or until done at 350 degrees.

My Thoughts On Tater Tot Casserole:

This is one of the easiest recipes to put together. There are not that many ingredients and it is very easy to put it all together and put it in the oven. If you don't like peas you can replace peas with your favorite vegetable. As a kid, I always enjoyed tater tots and still do from time to time. To me, what makes this recipe so good is the mixture of the cream of mushroom soup and the cream of chicken soup along with the hamburger. It provides and great tasting sauce for the hamburger and potato mix.

More Information For You:

Tater tots came on the American food scene in 1953 and immediately became popular. Ore-Ida invented the "tater tot" name. You can learn more names and information about tater tots by visiting the US Foods website.

Questions For You:

Did you like eating tater tots when you went to school? If you didn't like tater tots, what did you trade them for? Let me know in the comment section below. Do you have a special tater tot casserole recipe you would care to share with me? I would love to see your recipe.

My Thoughts For The Day:

Peacock Dickerson Park Zoo - Springfield, Mo.

This past weekend we took a trip to the local zoo to celebrate my oldest granddaughter's birthday. It was fun to see her enjoy seeing the animals. It was a sunny warm day and there were lots of people there enjoying the zoo. My granddaughter turned four years old and I would think this trip will be a memory for her for the rest of her life. It is interesting how events in life we experience can stay with us throughout our lives. I remember being four years old and getting to go to the zoo. I can't remember the whole day but I definitely remember the zoo and some things about being at the zoo.

I saw a male peacock at the zoo perched on a fence and decided to get a quick picture before he jumped down. Later I saw him raising and shaking his feathers for a female peacock. The female did seem impressed. It was very fun to witness and it was a great day.

Thanks for reading my thoughts on the day. I hope you enjoy the tater tot casserole recipe and remember to stay positive and keep on cooking!
